Volunteer Opportunties

Much of the business of town government is conducted by appointed volunteers who
contribute generously of their time and effort.  The Town of Bedford currently has
approximately twelve (12) appointed boards, committees and commissions. 
Although the frequency of meetings varies depending on the responsibilities and
workload of the particular committee or commission, most meet either monthly or
biweekly. For more information on a specific board, committee or commission
please check the Boards & Committees link in the column to the left.
 
If you are interested in serving Bedford as an appointed volunteer, please complete the Application and return it to Dawn Boufford in the Town Manager’s Office.

Energy Commission
2 Regular, 3 Alternate
Historic District Commission
2 Alternate

Conservation Commission
  • Helpful experience: Interest in wetlands, construction issues with drainage, and open space protection/ stewardship.
  • Hours per month: Three to four hours
Parks & Recreation Commission
  • Helpful experience: Interest in betterment of parks and recreation facilities and policies related to usage of same.  Fair and open minded approach dealing with presented items
  • Hours per three months: Three to four hours (meets quarterly)
Energy Commission
  • Helpful experience: General understanding of both renewable and non-renewable energy resources helpful as well as the skill to work effectively with people of differing backgrounds and viewpoints
  • Hours per month: Five to seven
BCTV
  • Helpful experience: Willingness to participate as a station producer, act as a program host, or cover events in town as a camera person (not required),  as well as recognizing that the Board is a policy making entity only.
  • Hours (Board Meets Once a Quarter): Two hours
Water & Sewer Advisory Committee
  • Helpful experience: Training or experience in engineering, water management or related field
  • Hours per month: Four hours
Cemetery Trustees
  • Helpful experience: Interest in maintaining our cemeteries
  • Hours: 20 hours a year
